Dear Families of Higgins Students,
Here is the week ahead for the week starting Tuesday, October 1, 2024,
Athletics
Spectator Rules
This week we start hosting games, and we encourage students and families to come watch games, with these rules in mind.
In Basketball, Higgins students are welcome to watch the first home game. However, once that game ends, students must head home, unless they are in the company of their own legal guardian. Adults can not take responsibility for students if they are not the legal guardian.
If traveling to an away game, please know that Higgins students cannot attend away games unless their legal guardian is present.
The Calgary Middle School Athletic Association, of which Dr. Gordon Higgins is a part, has set these rules with the support of participating schools.

Focus on the North East: Passionate Individuals Care about Making the NE even Better
This week at Dr. Gordon Higgins School we had the City of Calgary join us for our “Welcome Back” – Event.
City of Calgary employees, Ali McMillan (City Planner) and Liam May (Engineer) joined us to kick off the new school year in style as we enjoyed hot dogs, played basketball, and listened to music.
City of Calgary was also there to promote their new upcoming pathway and bikeway routes in Pineridge, Temple, Rundle and Whitehorn, aligning with Calgary's established Pathway and Bikeway Network. These connections will focus on routes that serve students, recreation, shopping, and work destinations. When built, these routes will provide safe, healthy, and affordable travel choices for people of all ages and all abilities, year-round.
Ali McMillan will also be speaking to the Grade 9 Leadership class later this year. Ali had a wonderful time at the Higgins event working with some of the Leadership students and had the following to say about the class:
“We also wanted to comment on the conduct of the Leadership students last night. They were extremely polite and took initiative to offer to help setting up and running stations. We were vey impressed with their interest in the topic and career paths at the City of Calgary as well as their positive conduct with their peers. Students keenly engaged with other students, and adults at the stations, getting engaged in the topic thoughtfully. Their creative ideas and interest were a joy to work with. We were VERY impressed! Looking forward to our further collaborations upcoming.”
Sincerely,
Colin McCracken
