Our standard of dress at DGH is simply to acknowledge that what families choose to allow students to wear is 100% up to them. Our one ask is for students to have on clothing and footwear that is safe during Physical Education, Science Labs and CTF Labs such as Construction and Foods. The goal is for students to feel comfortable and cared for at school. A system-wide standard of dress that largely reflects this is under re-development. The “safety” elements of the system wide Standard of Dress and Grooming which have been in place since 2005 are located here:

In the 2005 Standard of Dress and Grooming (Administrative Regulation 6010), it is up to the Principal’s discretion, with safety in mind, to determine which items students are not permitted to wear.  The AR states:

  1. Students are not permitted to wear articles of clothing, jewelery or accessories that indicate or suggest membership in a sorority, fraternity, secret organization or unauthorized student group or gang.
  2. The principal may determine which articles of clothing, jewelery or accessories indicate or suggest membership in a sorority, fraternity, secret organization or unauthorized student group or gang.

The principal determines that the following items are not permitted on school property. (This list can be amended at any time).

  • Coloured Bandanas
  • Designer Side Bags

As our hallways and classrooms are narrow and small, it is expected that all heavy jackets, and knapsacks be kept in the locker. This prevents injury in the hallway, and prevents items not allowed in school from being easily accessed.
