Celebrating the Northeast Where We Live
Robbie Sihota, Real Estate Agent and Director of Basketball Operations - Brown Ballers.
Robbie grew up in the community of Whitehorn and graduated from Lester B. Pearson High School. Robbie was a three-year starter at Lester B. Pearson HS in Calgary. He led his team to the Calgary City Championship final twice and the ASAA Provincial final in Grade 11. Robbie would average 26 points, 13.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 4.2 blocks per game in his senior year.
Robbie would go onto play basketball for the University of Calgary and would finish in the top 7 on UC’s all-time scoring list with 1440 points, top 4 on UC’s all-time rebounding list with 681 rebounds, and top 3 in most games played with 105 games. His team would go on to win the Canada West Championship in the 2009 season. Along with individually being selected as a Canada West - Second Team All-star (2010).
Robbie would go onto have a 7-year professional career in Europe and would be the rebounding leader for the Dutch Basketball League (2010-2011). He is widely considered the greatest basketball player of Indian descent!
He is also the founding member of the Northside Elite Basketball Academy, with his goal to break down the game at a fundamental level and help improve players ability to better understand what it takes to become a better overall basketball player at a high level. Additionally, as the Director of Basketball Operations for Brown Ballers (non-for-profit organization) he helps promote success in sports for members of the South Asian community.
The students were delighted on so many levels to hear his incredible story from not making the basketball team in grade 7 to becoming a global icon in the sport of basketball, while representing the Northeast! It was also amazing for the students to make a connection with his work as a real estate agent as they are starting the real estate unit in Mr. Brar's business class.
Robbie left the business class with a great message of being accountable to every part of your own life, as we have to focus on having a strong work ethic to attain our goals. His final message was that as we overcome all of our negative circumstances or challenges, we will create a life that will speak higher volumes than words could ever say!
Student Feedback:
"There's no substitute for hard work! You've got to be ready for those opportunities as they come. It's true that I don't know what I want to do, but as long as I do what I like or what might help me later, I can keep my options open"
"The message of the outside world does not care about your circumstances was really a wakeup call I needed! We have to work hard because no one cares about our excuses, we just have to get it DONE!"
"He's super humble and he has showcased that by becoming the Director of Operations for a non-for-profit focused on South Asian visibility in sports, but it also serves the needs of everyone. He also wasn't great at first, but worked hard and now is one of the greatest!"
Thank you To Mr. Brar, for bringing these role models to Higgins!
Sincerely,
Colin McCracken
