School Council Meeting
Our next, and final school council meeting of the school year will be on Tuesday, June 11 at 6:30pm. We hope you all can attend.
Calgary Transit Route 783: An Update for Families Living in Temple
In response to concerns about inappropriate behaviour on Calgary Transit Route 783 for students coming to school, and returning to homes in Temple, we are hosting a meeting Monday at 10am. At the meeting, a team from Calgary Board of Education transportation, and a team from Calgary Transit will be on hand to meet with students living in Temple. At the meeting we will talk about waht appropriate bhaviour looks like, and what consequences are for inappropriate behaviour, including consequences outlined in the city by-law. Students have a right to come to school in a safe manner, without the risk of bullying or ridicule. This meeting will be occuring on Monday, and will occur once again at the beginning of the school year, as we know students often require reminders to keep them on track.
Following the meeting, CBE transportation will be sending home a message through school messenger to parents outlining the discussion that was held with Temple students.
Grade 9 Farewell Update
On Tuesday, June 25, our school will be hosting a Grade 9 Farewell Celebration. It is our hope that all invited Grade 9 students will be present to participate in our ceremony. Each student will be acknowledged with a certificate, and there will be opportunities to take both individual and group photos. The program will include speeches from students and presenters, a farewell presentation, and the presentation of major year-end awards.
The following is a timeline of activities and processes connected to the Farewell:
Monday, June 10
Your child will be sent home with a letter and two tickets to the farewell. The tickets are numbered. If tickets are lost, unfortunately we cannot replace them, which means that your child will not have someone attending farewell.
If you require more tickets, have your child fill out a form in the office stating how many tickets they require. The form will be date and time stamped, to ensure that extra tickets are given out in a first come/first serve basis. We kindly request that younger siblings of grade 9 students not attend the farewell. The assembly is not designed to capture the attention of young children, and we would prefer to not have those kind of disruptions at this event.
Wednesday, June 12
If you are not planning on using one or all of your tickets, please have your child return the unused tickets to their homeroom teacher by Wednesday, June 12.
Monday, June 17
The office staff will assign unused tickets to those families requesting more tickets. As mentioned above, tickets will be given out to those who have filled out a form.
Thursday, June 20
In the afternoon, grade 9 students will participate in a rehearsal for farewell.
Tuesday, June 25 The Day of the Farewell
Students are expected to arrive at Dr. Gordon Higgins no later than 5pm, so that they can get organized for the ceremony. Family members with tickets, will be permitted to come in at 5:35pm. Please remember that if you do not have a ticket, you will not be granted entry. The ceremony will start at 6pm and end at approximately 8pm. To avoid interruptions, please come on time, and plan on staying for the entire event. Opportunities to take pictures will be provided, but we ask that phone calls, and texting take place before and after the event.
We look forward to joining families and friends in a celebration as we bid farewell to our grade 9 students.
Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Tests
Starting next week, Grade 9 students will begin writing the remainder of the provincial achievement tests. All exams will begin at 9am. Students will spend the first hour preparing for the tests. The schedule is as follows:

Sport Court Grand Opening
After a very long process, the sport court is finally ready to opened officially. On June 21, we will be hosting a Grand Opening Ceremony, complete with festive events. More information about this event will be coming next week.
Are you Moving?
If you know you are moving over the summer, please contact the office so that we can assist you in ensuring your child is ready to start school in the fall. As we are now at a closed status, Dr. Gordon Higgins can no longer accommodate students that live out of our attendance area.
Last Day of School
The last day of school is on Thursday, June 27. Dismissal across all CBE schools will be early. Our dismissal on this day is 12 Noon. Report card appeals take place in the afternoon on June 27th, and the morning of June 28.
